What ministries will I find at

Good News Church?

Worship Gathering – 10:30 a.m. Sundays

At Good News Church, we believe that God shapes our hearts as we gather with other Christians to worship Him. Worshiping God means that we acknowledge Him as worthy of the highest honor and our total obedience. We believe that Jesus places each Christian in a local church and that part of our identity is connected to the worshiping group to which we belong.

The Sunday morning worship time at Good News Church includes worship though singing (typically accompanied by keyboard, guitars, and drums); worship through sharing (spontaneous opportunity for participants to talk about what God is up to in their lives); worship through giving (financial offering for the work of God around the world) worship through prayer (a large-group prayer time during which we honor God and ask for His intervention); and worship through the word (application-focused study of the Bible).

Group Ministry – Join a Group or Start a Group

At Good News Church we seek to create a culture in which Kingdom-centered groups can multiply. So the leaders of Good News Church repeatedly say, “Join a group or start a group. Either choice is fine.”

We coach and encourage group leaders according to the Scriptures without seeking to dictate what each group should do. Groups typically begin when someone from Good News Church approaches one of our pastors and says, “I believe God is calling me to start a group.” Our pastors provide guidance and prayer support for each new group which is focused on Jesus, guided by Scripture, grounded in prayer and led by the Holy Spirit.

Here is a current sampling of groups at Good News Church:  Encouragers (for mature adults); Men’s Group (an breakfast fellowship group for men); Women’s Bible Study (meets at the Ministry Center on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m.); Prayer Group (Thursdays, 7 p.m.) Matthew 25:35 Group (Sunday luncheon for homeless); Youth Group (Sunday mornings at Ministry Center).

Children’s Ministries

Our boys and girls from infancy through fifth grade are a special part of our church. Mid-way through the worship time, our children preschool through grade 5 are invited to go to “Children’s Church” where they will have fun activities, sing and participate in a Bible-learning experience. A Nursery is open for parents with babies to attend to their own children. Parents in the Nursery can hear the worship service and watch it through a window into the auditorium.

Missions – Children’s Camps in the Dominican Republic

Good News Church helps fund and staff two very special camps for boy and girls in Santo Domingo, DR each summer. Most of these children live in orphanages. Many volunteers from our church have been part of the short-term ministry teams that go to the DR for 10 days each summer.

Church Planting

Good News Church believes that more people can be introduced to Jesus as more churches are started. Right now we are part of a team that is starting a Spanish-speaking and an English-speaking church in McAdoo, PA. We are also partnering with an effort to begin a new church in Pottsville, PA.
